Standard Birch Plywood

We use locally sourced Baltic Birch plywood to construct the bulk of the sleeping platform. Baltic Birch is known for its durability and attractive appearance. It is used in professional applications including kitchen countertops, skateboards, and trailer shells. The wood is naturally beautiful and looks like a work of fine art when placed inside your vehicle. It accepts stain and paint.
Armor Black

This is a special Baltic Birch plywood with a durable coating that is resistant to chemicals, water, and heat. Thanks to this durable coating, you can load up your gear on top of the platform and not worry about chipping or scratching the wood underneath. The top surface is also textured to ensure your mattress or sleeping pad stays in place. It looks stealthy inside dark interior trims, and beautifully accents vehicles with light interior trims.
FAQs
What's the difference between the wood types?
Both use the the same birch plywood, but the Armor Black Plywood is coated top and bottom with a durable, scratch-proof, weather resistant, shell.
Will the Armor Black texture wear off?
No. The laminate is impregnated into the wood fibers and is permanent. The adhesive process utilizes PUR (Poly-Urethane-Reactive Hot Melt) to laminate the textured plastic to the surface of the wood.
Is the Armor Black waterproof?
The Armor Black Plywood is weather resistant, not waterproof. While the top and bottom surfaces of the Armor Black Plywood will bead water, the edges of the wood are exposed, so you don’t want to get it soaked.
What chemicals are used?
- Phenolic resin: A synthetic material that is resistant to chemicals, water, and heat
- Phenol formaldehyde or lignin phenol formaldehyde resin adhesive: A weather and boil-proof adhesive used to glue the layers of plywood together
- Melamine-urea-formaldehyde resin: A moisture resistant adhesive that can be used to bond the layers of plywood together
