This mattress is ruggedly built and super comfortable. It's not the lightest or most packable option on the list, but it will withstand any outdoor adventure. Read More The bottom and side fabric is reinforced with durable ripstop fabric similar to that of a crash pad. Yet the top of the mattress is super soft and comfy.

This mattress doesn't win any awards for packed size, but for the price, it is very comfortable will fit nicely on top of your folded TrunkMate kits. We really love the 4" thick option and always protect it with a mattress cover since it's not built for the outdoors.

Our Thoughts
This mattress has a really soft foam top surface that makes it more comfortable than most traditional air mattresses. It is a bit of a chore to inflate with the included air pump, but the tradeoff is that it does pack down pretty small and is a lightweight option to the more dense foam mattresses on our list. We gave the MegaMat 10 our lightweight choice award.

Our Thoughts
This mattress folds up smaller than most tri-folding mattresses and is a nice budget option to the more outdoorsy Hest Foamy mattress. You won't get near as much padding or durability as the Foamy, but this does come with a water resistant, washable top sheet that is very soft and comfortable against the skin. We gave this mattress our budget choice award.

• Sleeping pads are usually between 20" and 25" wide, but they do make double-wide sizes for couples.
Most backpacking sleeping pads fit great on our 20"-wide and 24"-wide sleeping platforms, but check the width of the pad before buying.
Our Thoughts
Backpacking Sleeping Pads can be a great option for car camping if you sleep well on them. They're usually pretty simple to inflate, and most of us have one or two laying around the house anyway. While not a long term comfort option, their super small packed size outmatches every other mattress on our list. Consider using an underlayment like a thin yoga mat or closed cell foam pad for keeping the sleeping pad in place and adding a bit of additional comfort.
