WOOD OPTIONS
NEW! BLACK HEKSA
This is a special baltic birch plywood with a durable, textured laminate. This hexagonal laminate is raised and provides a non-slip surface so you can load up your gear on top and not worry about it sliding around. It looks great with dark vehicle trims and will withstand years of abuse.
WEATHER SEAL
We apply a blend of beeswax, citrus, and low V0C oils to the wood for maximum weather protection. The Weather Seal formula beads water, prevents rot and bacteria, and lengthens the lifespan of your sleeping platform. Our formula has a pleasant citrus aroma and is great for folks who are sensitive to odors.
NO FINISH
Our locally sourced maple plywood has beautiful grain patterns and streaks of reddish color. Appreciate the natural beauty with a no-finish option, but keep in mind that it is prone to water damage, so it is not recommended for wet or humid environments.
FAQs
How much does Black HEKSA weigh?
The Black HEKSA is a denser wood than our regular maple plywood. Below are the approximate weights of each of our sleeping platforms in Black HEKSA.
Single: 28lbs
Wide Single: 32lbs
SUV Double: 56lbs
Minivan Double: 62lbs
Why does Black HEKSA cost this much?
The short answer: It’s quite a bit more expensive for us to purchase, and it is heavier and therefore more expensive to ship.
The long answer: The Black HEKSA is a special phenolic coating on Euro birch core that is impregnated into the wood, not just glued on like regular laminates. The adhesive process utilizes PUR (Poly-Urethane-Reactive Hot Melt) to laminate the textured plastic to the surface of the wood. It is produced in Latvia and so the lamination process as well as the shipping cost puts these sheets a premium price point.
Is the texture on 1 side only?
The Black HEKSA pattern is only on 1 side of the wood. The other side of the wood has a smooth black laminate.
Will the Black HEKSA wear off?
No. The laminate is impregnated into the wood fibers and is permanent. The adhesive process utilizes PUR (Poly-Urethane-Reactive Hot Melt) to laminate the textured plastic to the surface of the wood.
Is the Black HEKSA waterproof?
The Black HEKSA waterproofs the top and bottom of the wood, but not the end grains.
