FAQ
Everything you need to know about sleeping in your vehicle with the BlitzBed.
Vehicle Fit & Compatibility
Will the BlitzBed fit my vehicle?
The BlitzBed was designed to work in a wide range of SUVs, minivans, hatchbacks, and trucks — including vehicles with uneven cargo floors, seats that don’t fold flat, or seats that have been removed.
Rather than building a completely different platform for every vehicle, we developed a modular system with multiple widths, support options, and adjustable components that allow the platform to adapt to many different interiors.
We’ve tested the system in thousands of vehicles over the years and continue expanding our Fit Guide as new vehicles are researched and documented.
If you’re unsure about your setup, feel free to contact us — we’re happy to help determine what configuration may work best for your vehicle.
If your vehicle is listed in our Vehicle Database, you can be sure it will fit!
How do you verify vehicle compatibility?
We don’t simply estimate fitment based on cargo dimensions found online.
Vehicles listed in our Fit Guide have either been physically tested by our team, documented through customer installs, or repeatedly verified through real-world use.
If your vehicle appears in our verified vehicle database, you can feel confident that the setup has already been researched and confirmed.
My seats don't fold flat. Will the BlitzBed still work?
Yes — that’s one of the main reasons the BlitzBed exists.
Most SUVs and minivans have uneven cargo floors, sloped seats, gaps between rows, or awkward humps that make sleeping directly in the vehicle uncomfortable. The BlitzBed creates a flat sleeping surface above those problem areas.
Each setup includes adjustable support options so you can fine-tune the height and level the platform for your specific vehicle.
Why isn't the BlitzBed permanently built into the vehicle?
The BlitzBed was designed to function more like modular camping gear than a permanent camper conversion.
Unlike fixed vehicle builds that can take over the entire cargo area, the BlitzBed can fold into the trunk, transfer between compatible vehicles, and remove completely when not in use.
Slight clearance around the interior panels also allows easier installation and removal while still maintaining a secure, built-in feel once strapped into place.
This modular approach helps keep the vehicle usable for everyday driving while still creating a comfortable sleeping setup when needed.
How is the end of the bed supported in my vehicle?
All of our supports are adjustable.
For SUVs, we include 3 sizes of supports that rest on your folded seats.
For minivans and pickup trucks, the supports have built-in leveling legs that can be raised as needed to match the height of the bed.
That means whether you’re doing a simple weekend setup or building out a full SUV camper, the BlitzBed sleeping platform adapts to your layout.
How does the BlitzBed stay secure while driving?
Most SUVs and minivans already have factory cargo tie-down points in the rear of the vehicle. The BlitzBed includes adjustable straps that secure the platform to these anchor points to help prevent movement while driving.
Because the platform is custom-fit to the width of your vehicle and sits low to the floor, the setup feels surprisingly stable once installed.
Comfort & Sleeping Experience
Is it comfortable to sleep in a car?
Surprisingly, yes! With a little practice, you’ll be sleeping better in your car than you do in your bed at home! The excitement of waking up in a brand new environment without the hassles of traditional tent camping is next level! You’ve got to try it to believe it!
Does it get stuffy or too hot in the car?
Not if you crack your windows at night! This will help aerate the car and prevent condensation from building up on the inside of your windows.
Solutions for sleeping in your car in hot/humid conditions:
- Crack all of your windows. Roll them all the way down if there’s no chance of rain. This will offer more airflow than you get in a tent. (Worried about bugs getting in? Cover the open windows with a set of window screens. These allow airflow in without letting the bugs in.)
- Mount a small battery operated clip-on fan to your headrests or ceiling.
- If you have a hybrid or fully electric vehicle, you can use the climate control without fear of draining your car’s battery.
- Sleep up off the floor of your car. Sleeping on a mattress right on the floor restricts airflow. When you elevate the mattress up onto a sleeping platform, it allows the mattress to breathe and air to circulate throughout the bed.
- Use a mattress or sleeping pad with a low R-value (little to no insulation). An air mattress is better than a foam mattress for staying cool.
- Invest in cooling bed sheets.
Will I have enough headroom to sit up in bed?
Most customers are surprised by how much usable space they still have. The BlitzBed was specifically designed to sit low in the vehicle while still clearing folded seats and uneven cargo floors.
Because every vehicle is different, headroom varies, but keeping the platform low-profile was one of our biggest design priorities. Many customers comfortably sit up in bed, change clothes, read, work on a laptop, or relax inside the vehicle without feeling cramped.
Why not just throw a mattress on the floor?
For some people, that works perfectly fine — especially in vehicles with unusually flat interiors. We’re big believers in using whatever setup gets you outside and exploring.
But many people eventually run into the same issue: most vehicles weren’t designed to be comfortable bedrooms. Folded seats create slopes and pressure points, gaps between rows leave unsupported areas, and sleeping directly on the cargo floor usually means sacrificing nearly all of your storage space.
That’s where a sleeping platform starts to make a noticeable difference. By creating a flat, elevated surface, it turns the back of the vehicle into a more usable sleeping area while keeping gear organized underneath instead of piled around you.
For some, that added comfort and organization is the difference between “surviving the night” and actually looking forward to sleeping in the vehicle again the next day.
I'm tall/short. Will it still work?
The length of the bed is fully adjustable to fit your vehicle perfectly – no measuring, no guessing.
The bed frame adjusts from 5 feet long to 6 feet 3 inches long.
For use in a smaller SUV, please first make sure that YOU fit behind the 1st row seats. Just because the platform fits doesn’t mean that YOU fit, so make sure you fit before assuming it will be comfortable.
For a longer bed, simply pull out the bed frame to a maximum of 6 feet 3 inches.
How may people will the sleeping platform sleep?
Single sleeping platforms sleep 1
Double sleeping platforms sleep 1 or 2, depending on your sleeping preferences and the size of your mattress.
Where do people use the bathroom?
Most folks use public toilets for going #2. But many will carry a portable travel toilet along with them for going #1, or in the event of an emergency. There’s not a whole lot of space inside most SUVs, so it’s common to set up a privacy tent or curtain if in a public space. You can buy portable travel toilets or make your own with a bucket, a trash bag, and kitty litter.
Is it safe to sleep in a car?
Very safe. Think about tent camping where you’re exposed to the elements, the bugs, and the neighboring humans and/or wildlife. Now imagine that your tent is soundproof, lockable, and has wheels so you can just drive away in the middle of the night without packing up. That’s the benefit of sleeping in your car.
