MoisesMay 1, 2026. TrunkMate BlitzBed Review (Purchase Date: September 11, 2025) Longtime coming review. I had to put this rig through its test’s before reviewing, had to make sure. TLDR: Buy this now! Don’t wait, get out there and enjoy, there is so much you are missing out on, by holding back and not buying this core component of the adventure. Now on to my detailed review… I purchased the BlitzBed on September 11, 2025, and from start to finish, the experience has been solid. The product itself is exactly what you hope for when you’re building out a car-life or travel setup—sturdy, comfortable, and genuinely plug-and-play. Setup was straightforward, and the design feels well thought out. It’s not one of those products you have to “figure out”—it just works. But the real standout here is Kevin. Kevin was my only point of contact, and he handled everything. From the initial questions to setup guidance, he was responsive, patient, and actually helpful—not scripted support. What really impressed me is that he didn’t disappear after the sale. He checked in months later just to see how things were going and to get feedback. That’s rare. He cares about both the product and the people using it. I recall when I first spoke to Kevin on the phone, we spoke for about 30 minutes, the whole time it was about the design of trunk mate, the iterations, the prototypes, the customer feedback as the harness for its improvements. I loved it! — I am a Virtual Reality → Game mechanics, UI, UX designer. The back and forth we had.. inspired me especially when thinking about my own unique challenges that comes with my designs after prototyping and play testing. But when the passion pours out of a fellow designer and in detail they describe to me their medium, the trials and tribulations journey to how they arrived at the current product, it is very inspiring. Needless to say.. He really cares about this product and it’s affect on the customer. Since getting the BlitzBed, I’ve been taking it out and putting it to use in real environments—not just a driveway test. I have uploaded photos with this review showing the setup in different locations I’ve been, hopefully I inspire people to get out there (watch youtube car lifer’s, van lifer’s, RV lifer’s for guides & tips) That said, this bed holds up strong and because of that, it’s the *core* of my build. Everything is built around blitzbed. My battery, my fridge, my lighting.. etc. I am now just ust getting underway for my year long full time car life adventure.. and it’s only possible because of the TrunkMate blitzbed especially for my compact vehicle size. If you’re on the fence about TrunkMate or the BlitzBed, don’t overthink it. The product delivers, and if you’re lucky enough to work with Kevin, you’re in good hands. Simple: Superb product, even better support. The craziest part, and this is crazy.. I sleep better in this bed than my (3x more expensive purple mattress) Now can someone tell me.. How the hell is that possible? (I have bulging discs & chronic low back issues) I now wake up with no back pain, well rested, the fresh air from open window of course helps.. but the point here, I would wake up with back pain on my 3x more expensive purple mattress. Maybe it has something to do with the 4” thick hest mattress being closer to the blitzbed frame, and hence it’s firmer and keeps my spine aligned — I suppose?? I have no idea, all I know is that.. I sleep in my car now and I gifted my purple mattress to a friend. Take this last bit of data for whatever it may be worth to you. (Mess around, I may take the bed into the hotel, I’m just sayin’) Elsie GilmoreFebruary 18, 2026. I am so happy with the bed platform I got. It's extremely high quality, and it fits in my vehicle perfectly. The supports they sent were the 9" ones, and I actually only needed to use the cross bars because of how my second row back seats fold down. And I thought in the future, the 7" supports would come in handy if I wanted to use the platform on a flat surface. Customer service was great, and they sent me the 7" supports, and I'm sending back the 9" so someone else can use them. I'm really happy that I splurged on the drawer and can't wait to try this out for my next camping trip. Ilan AOctober 24, 2025. Trunkmate has been one of the best companies I’ve ever worked with and bought from. From the start, they went above and beyond to help me with my unique situation, and every interaction was friendly, professional, and kind. Kevin was the one who set everything in motion for me, and without him and the amazing Trunkmate team, none of this would’ve been possible. I live full-time in my van while attending school, and what I expected to be a stressful setup turned into something comfortable and enjoyable thanks to their product. It completely exceeded my expectations in both quality and practicality. If you’re on the fence about purchasing, I can honestly say it’s worth every penny. And if you still have doubts, reach out to Kevin or anyone on their team, they’ll gladly answer your questions and make sure you feel confident about your purchase. barbara jonesSeptember 15, 2025. A week ago I was having trouble with setting up the bed I a new vehicle I just purchased. I took a rod trip to Costa Mesa and showed up at their shop Monday morning. They were not working that day but was coming in for a meeting. They took the time to help me out. I now know how to set it up I’m my Mazda CX-5 Kevin and Grant were extremely helpful and kind. I highly recommend the bed and the company Trunk Mate Scott CoxJuly 29, 2025. I replaced a car camping cot with a single Trunkmate with a drawer in my 2023 Honda Odyssey Minivan. The Trunkmkate is much more solid, anchored down and also gives me more room in the mini van for organizing and storage. I fit two bikes and extra wheels now fit with the adequate but smaller footprint of the trunkmate. The cot did not allow for extra wheels and was much less comfortable. I love the drawer for storing my cooking accessories and cook on the drawer extended with the lids on the drawer making a nice little table. I also have adequate room under the sleeping platform for my small Trevino toilet, solar generator w/ solar panels and clothes. I carry a Joolca shower and sink and portable refrigerator easily now. I can quickly revert my minivan back to all passenger seats within a few minutes. Thank you, Trunkmate, for building exactly what I was looking for to travel the country racing bikes and sleep comfortably. I love that I can keep everything organized, stealth and inside the minivan now. Anita MartinezJuly 16, 2025. Oh my goodness! I’m so glad a thoroughly researched options for turning my Toyota Sienna van into a functional camper for adventure road trips! Not only am I able to sleep comfortably on my Blitz Bed, but it provides plenty of storage, and folds quickly to make my van a people mover again. I don’t even have to take it out of the van. I just took it to the Grand Canyon and it was so awesome! Highly recommend Trunkmate Blitz Bed for its functionality, design and quality. For even more storage, I removed my third row seats, and Grant and Kevin at TRUNKMATE designed and built a platform that allows access to storage under the beds. Awesome design, quality and I can’t recommend TRUNKMATE products enough! (Note: If I were to purchase again, I would get the wood with the black plastic coating for sure!) Michael OhJune 14, 2025. First, I want to state that I’m a very meticulous, detail oriented, picky..if you will, person. I do things with intention. I’m minimalist too, but I want value in my gear. It’s important to have capability, usability, durability and whatever it is, it must function well. Otherwise, it’s useless. Also, I like modularity, a lightweight well-thought out design and purposefulness. I camp 2 out of 4 weekends per month, year round. Weather, be damned. So, my equipment must be good. My experience with the blitz bed single/solo, 24” width from trunkmate has been top notch and next level. One of the most important aspects of hiking, gravel riding, ultra running, surfing, while camping, is a good night’s sleep. The blitz bed meets, if not exceeds, a great night’s sleep. So, comfortable. Not just as a platform, but what it can do. It packs small and quickly folds into a small square, it stays in my trunk area, unnoticeable and hidden. I have it in my 2025 RAV 4 hybrid awd’s trunk area. It sets up and folds into itself in seconds. With a trifold mattress on top, I got a 3” one that rivals the comfort of my bed at home. The adjustability is excellent and adaptable to your vehicle’s floor plan, you can easily adjust the height for a completely flat sleeping surface and solve the rear seat “hump” problem. I recently purchased it, after a month of deep dive research, reviewing all the competitors and even diy my own builds for sleeping in my car. Nothing, imo, is as well built, thoughtfully designed, modular, lightweight and comfortable as the blitz bed. A game changer. I’m super happy with my purchase. I do recommend, getting the black armored blitz bed, for a $100 more, it’ll be waterproof and more durable imo. I’m in the Pacific Northwest a lot, so moisture, rain and exposure to wet weather is commonplace. Furthermore, working with Grant has been great! Super helpful, he understands the ergonomics of your vehicle and its fit. Which is key. He points out things, that even an overly meticulous person like myself, didn’t see or anticipate. He’s patient, helpful, personable, knowledgeable and is an outdoors guy that puts his stuff to the test. I’m the same, I push my equipment to its limits. I’m diy, but after accounting for materials, time, etc., upon inspection, I knew I couldn’t make a bed platform of this quality, usability and modularity. I love my blitz bed! Plus, it’s made locally. I’ve tried to “cheap out,” myself. And with all my configurations, my sleep system sucked! My sleep suffered, which negatively effected my sports performance and mood, the following morning. And to those that say, it’s too expensive. When it comes to equipment, you get what you pay for. There’s a lot that goes into this. I’m a firm believer in buying the best equipment possible, taking care of it and using it, a lot. You’ll get your return on it. It’ll easily pay for itself within one week of camping. Heck, a cheap hotel in summer…3-4 days, it paid for itself. In fact, you’ll get better performance and a good night’s sleep. Those are two things at the top of my list, good sleep and all day energy for my adventures. That’s my experience. Lastly, Kevin who works for Grant is another major outdoors guy with fantastic input as well. His experience with cycling, traveling to destinations to camp, rivals my own. He had a lot of useful thoughts to contribute as well. It’s this combination of an amazing product, a conscientious owner/designer who lives by his product, an associate who has numerous outdoors experiences as well, that makes me so happy to have done business with trunkmate, blitz bed. You will be so satisfied too. I’ve already camped for multiple days with it, tested it and will be sleeping on it, this Saturday night for a long, mountainous hike, Sunday morning at 4am. I’ll be looking for more innovations from this upcoming camping, adventure outfit. See you outdoors! Karen AngeliciApril 20, 2025. I love my Trunkmate Blitzbed! It fits perfectly in my 1st gen Tundra pickup - snug up to the side wall and over the wheel well hump with no issues. The cutouts in the platform let my mattress breathe. It’s easy to remove too. I love the drawer for my entire kitchen setup. I searched and searched for the right bed setup and definitely found it:) Anna WankelFebruary 11, 2025. I am in LOVE with my Trunkmate!! I have a Toyota Sienna and it fits perfect with plenty of space for my surfboards on the other side or to set up the smaller of the rear bench seat:) I was able to speak with an actual person (the owner:) on the phone before I bought it and he answered all of my questions and was so helpful!! 5 stars, would highly recommend!! TeresaJanuary 10, 2025. Grant you are SOOO Awesome! I recently had a dilemma, that initially seemed a bit challenging. However, Grant the Owner of TrunkMate handled the situation with remarkable results and empathy. Grant listened attentively to my concerns demonstrating a deep understanding of the situation at hand. Grant then proceeded to resolve the issue swiftly, employing a solution that was both effective and considerate of my needs. This experience has reinforced my confidence in TrunkMates's ability to provide excellent customer service, even in the face of unforeseen challenges. It's rare to find such dedicated service these days. A huge Shout Out! to Grant and his team at TrunkMate. Rated 100+...Thank U so much! Voted best Car Camping Sleeping Platform

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to sleep in a car?
Very safe. Think about tent camping where you’re exposed to the elements, the bugs, and the neighboring humans and/or wildlife. Now imagine that your tent is soundproof, lockable, and has wheels so you can just drive away in the middle of the night without packing up. That’s the benefit of sleeping in your car.
Does it get stuffy or too hot in the car?
Not if you crack your windows at night! This will help aerate the car and prevent condensation from building up on the inside of your windows.
Solutions for sleeping in your car in hot/humid conditions:
- Crack all of your windows. Roll them all the way down if there’s no chance of rain. This will offer more airflow than you get in a tent. (Worried about bugs getting in? Cover the open windows with a set of window screens. These allow airflow in without letting the bugs in.)
- Mount a small battery operated clip-on fan to your headrests or ceiling.
- If you have a hybrid or fully electric vehicle, you can use the climate control without fear of draining your car’s battery.
- Sleep up off the floor of your car. Sleeping on a mattress right on the floor restricts airflow. When you elevate the mattress up onto a sleeping platform, it allows the mattress to breathe and air to circulate throughout the bed.
- Use a mattress or sleeping pad with a low R-value (little to no insulation). An air mattress is better than a foam mattress for staying cool.
- Invest in cooling bed sheets.
Note: We don’t recommend sleeping in your car during the day or before the sun goes down. If it’s too hot to sleep in a tent, it’s also too hot to sleep in your car. On extremely miserable nights, drive to a new location or get a hotel room for the night. Car camping, like any camping, is best done when the conditions are bearable.
Is it comfortable to sleep in a car?
Surprisingly, yes! With a little practice, you’ll be sleeping better in your car than you do in your bed at home! The excitement of waking up in a brand new environment without the hassles of traditional tent camping is next level! You’ve got to try it to believe it!
Why not just throw a mattress on the floor?
We encourage everyone to experiment with different sleeping options before investing in a sleeping platform. Depending on the shape of your vehicle’s interior, an air mattress on the floor may work fine in a pinch. Our customers, however, are quick to point out that their back seats don’t lay down flat. And there’s a gaping hole between the 2nd row seats and the 1st row seats. So a mattress on the floor makes for a lumpy bed with a drop-off on one end. And comfort aside, when you put a mattress on the floor, you have no room for your gear. By lifting the bed up off the floor of your car, you solve both problems at once.
